Survey on Scientific Leadership within the UMRR-EMP

1.

At the May 29, 2013 UMRR-EMP Coordinating Committee meeting, Mike Jawson gave a short presentation outlining UMESC’s desire to develop a statement on scientific leadership within the UMRR-EMP.  This interest is precipitated by the changes occurring in the UMRR-EMP.  UMESC is interested in better management of our LTRMP responsibilities, and providing better and more effective and efficient scientific leadership for UMRR-EMP.  We are not interested in change for changes sake.  We want to embark on strategic and scientific planning with a shared vision of what science leadership is within UMRR-EMP, to foster communications and minimize misunderstandings.

To these ends, participants in the May 29 UMRR-EMP CC meeting agreed a survey would be a worthwhile undertaking. We would be grateful if you completed these nine questions by Tuesday August 20. Survey invitations are being distributed to the UMRR-EMP CC distribution list, additional UMRR-EMP program partners, and other known UMRR-EMP science product users.  Please do not forward your invitation, or the survey's URL address, to anyone else at this time.  Thank You.

2.

What is your involvement with UMRR-EMP?

3.

Who should USGS-UMESC provide scientific leadership to within the UMRR-EMP Partnership? (list all agencies/organizations/etc.)

4.

Are there others outside UMRR-EMP that should benefit from UMESC's scientific leadership? (list any agencies/organizations/groups/etc.)

5.

What do you see as the role, or purpose, of scientific leadership within the UMRR-EMP?

6.

What outcomes do you expect from scientific leadership?

7.

Are the current outputs (e.g., reports, models, decision support tools, technology transfer) and reporting formats (e.g., completion reports, fact sheets, manuscripts, etc.) meeting your needs?

8.

If you answered “Yes” to the previous question, what products did you find most useful? If you answered "No," what types of outputs, and output formats, would improve technology transfer and information delivery?

9.

What approaches would you like USGS-UMESC to take when providing scientific leadership? And, are there specific types of decisions you expect to result from science leadership, or expect scientific leadership to provide input to?
